Cochise County Cycling Classic
UPDATE:
PRESS RELEASE
Earlier this year Perimeter Bicycling announced that the longest event distance, 252-miles, would be discontinued and replaced by a new 185-mile event. The proposed 185-mile route would go through Fort Huachuca, a U.S. Army base. In working with officials at Ft Huachuca, it was determined that it would be best not to use the base due elevated security alert levels. Therefore, an alternate route had to be found.
In reviewing the geographical area of Cochise County and in keeping with our perimeter concept, the Cochise Classic Committee found a new 234-mile route that is both beautiful and challenging. We are happy to report that the new route will use two small sections of I-10. Entering at Benson and exiting at Dragoon (12 miles), and entering at the US Route 191 on-ramp and exiting at Milepost #336, just west of Willcox.
The 2010 Cochise Classic is dedicated to Fred Boethling, President/CEO of Race Across America (RAAM), the world's toughest bicycle race. Fred will be honored at the Cochise Classic Pre-Ride Party on Friday, October 8th at 6:30 pm in Douglas, Arizona
Cyclists may select from 234, 157, 92, or 45-mile events, all routed through beautiful southeastern Arizona. Cochise Classic is the perfect Fall event for cyclists.
Participants may experience a variety of conditions out on event routes, from beautiful blue skies, to thunder, lightning, windy conditions and even an amazing desert rainbow! Just be prepared to have fun in the adventure!
Those registering for either the 234 or the 157-mile event MUST have personal support crew and vehicle in order to participate in the event.
The Cochise Classic benefits Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc. and Douglas Association For Retarded Citizens (DARC), an organization whose mission is to support and involve people with developmental disabilities within the Douglas community.
