At El Tour everyone is a winner and all finishers earn special medallion which is given on ride day.  Your finish time will tell which medallion you earned in each distance:

HOW OUR EVENTS ARE TIMED
At ALL Perimeter Bicycling events we use GUN TIME, that is, the clock for everyone starts when the “gun goes off.”  Your time is recorded from the moment the gun goes off to the moment your timing chip crosses the finish line.


Every year, El Tour presents special awards to individuals, groups and even families in recognition of unique accomplishments. 

Conqs.SW.4CThe  CONQUISTADOR TROPHY is our most prestigious symbol and is presented to select award recipients as noted below.  Easiest way to earn one?  Raise $1,000 or more for one of El Tour’s qualifying charitable beneficiaries!

On ride day watch for the Grand Cycling Awards Ceremony in segments throughout the day starting at 12:30pm awarding the 1st – 3rd place men and women in the 100 mile event.  Check out the full schedule here.

Treasure Chest
Filled with gifts and prizes worth over $1,500, the Treasure Chest will go to the person who raises the most money for our primary beneficiary Easterseals.  Must raise a minimum of $3,000.   Not awarded on ride day.

Dr. Charles Gannon Dedication Award. 
El Tour’s highest honor, the Dedication Award, goes to an individual or group who has made a distinct contribution to the promotion and development of bicycling.
A special El Tour Conquistador is presented to the recipient at a dinner the Wednesday before El Tour.  All are invited to come to the dinner, RSVP required.  Learn more

Cushman & Wakefield/PICOR Commercial Real Estate Man & Woman of the Year
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to a male and female cyclist who have done a great deal to promote cycling in America worldwide.

Generation Award
A Certificate of Accomplishment is presented to the parent/child combination finishing on single bicycles with the best average time in the 100-mile event. The parent/child combination does not have to be adult/minor.  Not awarded ride day.  Download the 2018 El Tour Special Awards Form

Grand Generation Award
A Certificate of Accomplishment is presented to the grandparent/grandchild combination finishing on single bicycles with the best average time in the 100-mile event. The combination does not have to be adult/minor.  Not awarded ride day.  Download the 2018 El Tour Special Awards Form

Triple Generation Award
A Certificate of Accomplishment is presented to the grandparent/parent/child combination finishing on single bicycles with the best average time in the 100-mile event. The combination does not have to be adults/minor.  Not awarded ride day.  Download the 2018 El Tour Special Awards Form

Duo Award
A Certificate of Accomplishment is presented to a combination of two individuals who finish the 100-mile event on single bicycles with the best average time. No Tandems/tandem bars. You don’t need to be related; no restrictions on gender.

Military Award
An El Tour Conquistador Trophy is presented to the first place individual active duty male and female  in the U.S. Armed Services who ride  100-mile event.  Not awarded ride day.  Download the 2018 El Tour Special Awards Form

Jim Elliott Inspirational Award
An El Tour Conquistador Trophy is presented to an individual whom society often considers to be unable to participate in an event such as El Tour. This award acknowledges the courage, discipline and determination of the recipient. Participants of any main event distance (100, 75, 50 or 25 mi) will be considered.  Not awarded ride day. Terry Lorts Diabetes Award
An El Tour Conquistador Trophy is presented to a cyclist who has diabetes and has completed his/her chosen event. Participants of any main event distance (100, 75, 50 or 25 mi) will be considered.  Not awarded ride day.

Most Distinguished Male & Female Awards
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to the eldest individual male and
female cyclists who finish the 102, 75, 52 and 26-mile events. Minimum
age is 65 on event day.  Not awarded on ride day.  

El Tour Junior Award
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to the youngest individual male and
female cyclists who finish the 100, 75, 50 and 25-mile events. The
recipient must be 14 or under on ride day and must pedal the complete
route without assistance.  Not awarded on ride day.

Epic Rides Mountain Bike Award
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to the 100-mile 1st place male and
female riding a mountain bike. Mountain bike defined: an “all terrain” bicycle,
a minimum of 1.50-inch tires (knobby or slick) and upright, straight
handlebars. Cyclists must register as riding a mountain bike.  Not awarded on ride day.

Handcycle Award
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to the 1st place individual riding a
handcycle in the 100, 75, 50 and 25-mile events.  Not awarded on ride day. 

Recumbent Award
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to the 1st place individual riding a
recumbent (two-wheel or trike) in the 100-mile event.  HPV/enclosed recumbents do not qualify.  Not awarded on ride day. 

Tandem Awards
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to the 100-mile 1st placed mixed tandem, male  tandem and female tandem who are registered for this category.  Awarded on ride day.

Desert Mountain Insurance Services &
PISA Pain Institute of Southern Arizona Almost El Tour Award 

We appreciate the effort it takes to get to the START line of El Tour – the dedication to meet the challenge and the training that goes with it.  Sometimes circumstances occur that halt your ride. A unique award is presented to cyclists who are unable to complete their El Tour road event due to an injury involving a broken bone.  Not awarded ride day.

El Tour de Familia Award
An El Tour Conquistador Trophy is presented to the family with the highest number of points earned through finish time in any main event distance 100, 75, 50 or 25 mi).   To qualify there is a three member minimum, but a family may have an unlimited number of riders.  Points are awarded to each member who finishes (based on the list below) and the Family Award will be presented to the family with the highest number of points:

7 Points 100-mile Platinum
6 Points 100-mile Gold
5 Points 100-mile Silver
4 Points 100-mile Bronze
3 points 75-mile event
2 points 50-mile event
1 point 25-mile event

Michael J. Coles United States of America Awards
A special certificate is presented to the first 102-mile individual male and female
finisher of each state.  Not awarded on ride day.

The State of Arizona Award
A special certificate is presented to the first individual male and female 100-mile
finisher of each city or town in Arizona.  Not awarded on ride day.

Police Officer of the year Award
El Tour’s route goes through many jurisdictions around Tucson and Pima County.  We work closely with them all year to create the safest route possible. This award is presented to an officer who has performed at the highest level for El Tour.

El Tour Grande Award
Who says it doesn’t pay to be last? The last individual 100-mile cyclist to
cross the finish line in under 10 hours is honored for taking the most time to
enjoy the route and is given an El Tour Conquistador. 

El Tour Team Awards 
A Certificate of Accomplishment is presented to five cyclist-teams with the best cumulative finish times.  All team members must  riding the same distance under one of these categories:
– Business                         – Youth                              – High School
– Community                   – Family                            – Women

Pearl Schiff  Volunteer of the Year
El Tour could not exist without the exceptional individuals who volunteer for the event.  We work with a number of extraordinary volunteers throughout El Tour, and each year recognize a single volunteer who has performed the highest level of support for the event by presenting an El Tour Conquistador Trophy.  Not awarded ride day.

Outstanding Bike Patrol
Bike Patrol rides the event with you providing minor mechanical repair,  first aid and moral support.  Tell us about your experience with Bike Patrol during the event – visit the Bike Patrol booth or Info Booth.  The Outstanding Bike Patroler will be awarded
an El Conquistador Trophy.  Not awarded ride day.

Outstanding Aid Station Award
Every 7-12 miles an aid station staffed by volunteers greets cyclists with
water, fruit and sometimes other goodies. An El Tour Conquistador is presented
to the aid station that displays the most creativity and demonstrates the most enthusiasm and support for the cyclists.  Tell us about your experience! (info@perimeterbicycling.com).  Not awarded on ride day. 

GABA – Michael Mossman Safety Award
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to an individual in the community
who has done the most for the safety of cyclists and cycling on
Arizona roads. The Greater Arizona Bicycling Association (GABA)
may recommend the recipient.

The John Marino Ultra-Marathon Award
An El Tour Conquistador is presented to the man and/or woman who
bicycles the most miles (minimum of 300 miles to qualify) on El Tour’s
route within a 24-hour period. All cyclists completing at least 300 miles will
receive a special Certificate and an El Tour Conquistador will go to the
male and female bicycling the most miles. The current male record is
434.7 miles and the current female record is 345.8 miles. Cyclists must
notify Perimeter Bicycling prior to attempting this feat. All attempts must
be completed by 7:00 a.m. on the Saturday of El Tour Day

First – Third Finishers in “Main” Event
the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place individual men and women on road bikes in “main” event distances (100, 75, 50 or 25 mi) receive a Conquistador Trophy.  Check out the Grand Cycling Awards Ceremony schedule to cheer for them on ride day!

Crown Awards
Special certificates are presented to cyclists who in one calendar year
officially finish two qualifying Perimeter Bicycling Association of America,
Inc. events. Qualifying events are:

  • El Tour de Mesa: 62-mile (100K) event. Perimeter of Red Mountain
  • El Tour de Tucson: 100-mile event, Perimeter of Tucson

Cyclists completing two of the perimeters receive the Double Crown Award.  Names and achievements of the recipients will be published in the January/February issue of Tail Winds. Certificates of Achievement will be mailed in February.

Kids & Fun Ride Awards

  • The Best Decorated Bike Contest
    (Youths 12 & under) Deck out your bike and/or wear a costume in the Fun Ride!  Selection will be made at the Finish Line. The winner brings home a Conquistador Trophy, El Tour’s highest award!
  • Win a Bike!
    All registered 12 & under Fun Ride participants will be entered into a drawing to win a bike!
  • Kids Riding for Those Who Can’t – an essay contest!
    Youths 14 & under ride in any of El Tour’s distance:  100, 75, 50 or 25 miles, the Fun Ride or Indoor El Tour in honor of someone who is unable to ride. This special someone may be a friend, family member, teacher or even their favorite pet! The youngster must write and submit a short letter explaining whom he/she is riding for and why.  All entrants are entered into a chance to win a bicycle courtesy of Ben’s Bikes of TucsonLearn more

Indoor El Tour Awards

Certificates of Achievement are electronically sent to all Indoor El Tour cyclists riding 10 minutes or more.  All of the following Award Recipients receive an El Tour Conquistador trophy and will be posted on Perimeter Bicycling’s website and listed in Tail Winds, January/February issue.  Learn more about Indoor El Tour

1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Indoor El Tour Cyclists _
given to the top three fully registered individuals who rode for the longest time on a stationary bicycle.

Youngest Male & Female Indoor El Tour Cyclists
Awarded to the one male and female fully registered (12 and under) who
rode the longest time on a stationary bicycle.

Most Distinguished Male & Female Indoor El Tour Cyclist
awarded to the one male and female (65 or older) fully registered cyclist who rode the longest time on a stationary bicycle.

Community Team Award
Comprised of friends, co-workers or neighbors who register under one team name. Minimum of five (5) members. Awarded to he one team that has accumulated the most minutes on a stationary bicycle.  Learn more

Education Team Award
Presented to any school team that accumulated the most minutes as a group in Indoor El Tour.  May include students, faculty and/or staff of primary through college and/or vocational institution. 

Route:
Distances may be changed due to last minute construction, inclement weather or other uncontrollable circumstance.
