TUCSON, Ariz. (Sept. 13, 2016) – Richard J. DeBernardis, founder and president of Perimeter Bicycling, is pleased to announce that the Cenpatico Integrated Care Cochise County Cycling Classic presented by Canyon Vista Medical Center will honor Alex Oden – Cyclist, Environmentalist and Cancer Survivor.

As someone who has made significant contributions to bicycling, he will be honored at the pre-ride pasta dinner & dedication ceremony.  The Expo, which includes packet pick-up, late registration and the pre-ride party, will be held at the Cochise County Fairgrounds on Friday, Oct. 7 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The 2016 Cochise Classic will be held on Oct. 8 with the start and finish for all distances at the Cochise County Fairgrounds on Leslie Canyon Road in Douglas.  This year’s event will feature the 165, 95, 47 and 27-mile distances using the same route as 2015.

“The ride has many great advantages for the City of Douglas, the surrounding area, local charities and all of its participants,” said DeBernardis. It is an extraordinary cycling event for the Douglas community.”

Support is needed for the Cochise Classic Youth Cycling Program, a 12-week cycling training program for at-risk children and youth in Cochise County, ages 11-18 who are enrolled in public, private, or home school. The children are preparing to ride in the 27-mile Cochise Classic. For most of these children, it will be their first organized bicycle ride and finishing it will be quite an accomplishment.
