Viva Bike Vegas 2014 Wrap-up

Thursday, September 18th, 2014

VLV-elvisPerimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc. hosted the 7th annual Viva Bike Vegas 2014 on Saturday, September 13.

Viva Bike Vegas cyclists, 380 in all, traveled the perimeter of the Las Vegas Valley along-Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the four mountain ranges surrounding Las Vegas.

The ride was dedicated to Andy Clarke ~ America’s Leading Bicycling Advocate and president of League of American Bicyclists.

The cycling event attracted riders locally, nationally and internationally as riders took on the Las Vegas desert scenery as they embarked on a 101-mile ride, 62-mile Metric Century ride or 25-mile ride.

Some notable cyclists participated, among them Denise Mueller, the newly crowned Masters Road Cycling Criterium Champion; John Howard, Olympian; Rahsaan Bahati; Nelson Vails, Olympian; and John Marino, founder of Race Across America.

One of Perimeter Bicycling’s major goals is to raise money for local nonprofit organizations.  Discovery Children’s Museum, Easter Seals-Nevada, League of American Bicyclists (LAB) and Safe Nest shared in the approximately $10,000 raised by the cyclists.

Perimeter Bicycling developed collaborative partnerships with the RTC, city of Henderson, city of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) to help support and promote the ride.  Major sponsors included, Land Rover Las Vegas and KTNV Channel 13.
