Dedication
The 2011 event is dedicated to Roy Schoonover – ambassador extraordinaire for the local cycling community – as the event celebrates its Silver anniversary with special-edition medallions for all finishers. Since 1986, following a 31-year career with IBM, Roy has been opening the eyes and ears of elected officials to the bicycling needs of the community. A member of the Tucson-Pima County Bicycle Advisory Committee, Roy played a critical role in creating, funding and making sure bicycling was represented in the Regional Transportation Authority plan. Roy continues to crusade for the completion of one of his main projects - Pima County’s Urban Loop - a 55-mile circuit of Tucson connecting all of the linear Parks.
Roy will be honored at a special Dedication Dinner on Thursday, April 14 at McMahon’s Prime Steakhouse. The dinner is open to the public but seating is limited. For those wishing to attend, click here to register. Please R.S.V.P. by Monday, April 11.

Route Closure Time
Cyclists will be taken off the course at 2:00 pm. No exceptions. All course support including traffic control and aid stations will be discontinued at 2:00 pm. Cyclists riding after 2:00 pm can be disqualified by Tour Officials. Those stopped by the 2:00 pm closing time will be SAGGED back to the finish line.

Route: Aid Stations, Food & Water
There are 8 aid stations along the 73-mile route and 3 aid stations along the 27-mile route. Aid stations will be serving bananas, oranges and water. At selected stations, cookies and/or pretzels will be served.
Gatorade or other types of nutritional/electrolyte drinks are NOT provided. If you have a special diet and/or nutritional needs, please come prepared.
To help reduce cramps and muscle spasms, drink plenty of water and eat bananas along the route and you should be fine.
We strongly recommend you carry with you one or two spare tubes, tire levers, tire patch kit and other basic bicycle gear. Carry at least one water bottle, a cell phone, change ($$) and wear a CPSC approved bicycle helmet (required). Earbuds in BOTH ears violate event rules. We strongly discourage use of earbuds. |

Route: Bike Patrol
There will be approximately 20 trained Bike Patrol members out on the route to help you with mechanical problems, minor medical needs and encouragement. If you have a problem on route just flag down a Bike Patrol member and you will be given assistance. Bike Patrol cyclists are event officials. They are out there to help you; however, if necessary, they will disqualify cyclists for not following event rules.

Results
Unofficial results will be posted at the Tour Results Board within 20 to 30 minutes of crossing the Finish Line and will be continuously reposted approx. every 30 minutes. We will also be posting those same results every 30 minutes on our website (baring internet/computer problems) so you can tell your friends and family to check your results on their computer at home.
Please look at the posted results BEFORE leaving the venue and contact us immediately with any corrections. We will publish official results in the May/June issue of Tail Winds newspaper, which will be mailed to all participants. |

Timing Chip
A chip timing system for results will be used. A computer chip will automatically record your time as you cross the Finish Line. (Note: Your start time is "gun time" at your event Start Line line and NOT the time you cross the Start Line)
You will be issued a chip with Velcro band at El Tour Bike Expo, which will record your ride time.
It is your responsibility to make sure your chip is removed!!!!
Please be sure not to mix up your chip with your husband/wife/child, etc. – they are impossible to tell apart once they are taken out of their envelope!
Attach chip to your ankle, preferably your LEFT, to avoid chain grease and drivetrain interference. Upon crossing the finish line, volunteers will collect your chip at the END OF THE FINISH LINE. It is your responsibility to make sure your chip is removed!!!! No Chip, No Results, No Time!!!! Chute volunteers will also be marking cyclists' bibs for proper medallion.
For safety purposes, please DO NOT REMAIN in the chute area once your chip is removed due to the continued flow of approaching finishers.
If you decide to change your event mileage on the morning of El Tour, you must inform an event official at your new start location, as this affects event results! Please make your event mileage change prior to ride day if possible.
If you are unable to ride the event, please make sure you return your timing chip to Perimeter Bicycling as soon as possible. This will avoid being charged the $85 replacement fee, referred to in your application’s RIDER WAIVER FORM.
No Chip, No Results, No Time!!!! Volunteers will also be in the chute to mark bib numbers for the proper medallion. If you cannot complete the event for any reason, please be sure to come back to the finish area and return your timing chip to the Information Tent volunteers. Missing chips will be billed to the rider at $85 each! |

Double Line Rule
Due to concerns for the safety of all Tour cyclists, the rule that states cyclists shall not cross a double line WILL be enforced this year. Police, Bike Patrol and other course officials will take rider numbers of violators, who will be disqualified, and who will, as a result of their violation, not receive a finishing time, ranking or a medallion.
Please do not become a DQ Statistic! Help us keep the Tour as a safe, challenging and fun event.
PLEASE OBEY ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT DIRECTIVES AS WELL AS THOSE FROM BIKE PATROL AND OTHER EVENT OFFICIALS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION. |
